Residents opposed to the mandatory installation of smart meters on their homes and in their communities know their rights, and are not accepting what the utilities are handing down to them  in the form of ill-conceived roll out and opt-out programs.   Here are four major lawsuits.  The list is sure to grow:

1.   Kauai, Hawaii:  Resident Adam Asquith files federal lawsuit in U.S. District Court seeking injunction against Kauai Island Utility Cooperative’s smart meter plan.”  The complaint states that KIUC is “rushing forward with the installation of so-called ‘smart meters’ throughout the island of Kauai, Hawaii, despite serious security and privacy concerns, some of which involve apparent constitutional and statutory violations.”  Read:

my daughter had a smart meter installed when she was told it would be easier for meter readings as she had an outside dog. Her summer monthly bill was approximately $80 before the meter, and it jumped to $300 plus after the meter install. This is why I am against having this meter installed. And now they want me to pay monthly to opt out of something I didn’t opt into.

I was on vacation with locks on my house and both gates to my yard. Edison employees broke into my yard and installed a smart meter without my knowledge and permission. I had it removed and have been charged (which they said I would be) $75 for the removal and now an additional $10 is added to my monthly bill. I hve been violated by having someone come into my locked yard to install something against my wishes, and then I have to pay to NOT have it. This is extortion in my opinion. I am seeking a class action suit in Orange County CA so that I can recover the extorted fees for an item I did not wish to have in the first place.

M Rodriguez, you hit the nail on the head with your Comment. Thank you for sharing and informing our readers about what you are experiencing and feeling about smart meters. So many people have seen and are seeing their utility bills rise (and skyrocket) after the smart meter is installed. It’s hard enough making ends meet in today’s economy, and then gets very unfair when consumers have to choose between putting food on the table or paying the new smart meter utility bill. Read more about high smart meter bills on our companion website, Some smart meters seem to be not functioning properly and are causing or suffering from interference problems; others have sparked fires, creating a serious public safety hazard and endangering residents who have smart meters on their homes or at their complex, and other smart meters make people seriously sick. EMF Safety Network has been collecting and sharing long lists of complaints that are similar to you and your daughters’: You and your daughter can file a complaint or declaration about the smart meter and fees by following the recommended action items on the EMF Safety Network:
